Galaxy S4 Is Samsung's Fastest Selling Device Ever

The company expects to pass the 10 million sales mark this week.

Samsung executives say they are on track to sell more than 10 million Galaxy S4 smartphones by this week. That would make the S4 the company's fastest selling device ever.

Kim Yoo-chul with The Korea Times reported, "Samsung Electronics said Thursday it expects its latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S4, to surpass the 10 million mark in sales next week. 'We are confident that we will pass more than 10 million sales of the S4 next week. It is selling much faster than the previous model S3,' Samsung Electronics co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun told reporters at an industry forum in Seoul, Thursday."

SlashGear's Craig Lloyd noted, "The Galaxy S 4 has only been on the market for less than a month, which means that the flagship handset would become the company’s fastest-selling device ever if things go as planned next week. The new phone would even beat out the Galaxy S III, which sold 10 million units in a matter of 54 days, so the Galaxy S 4 would reach that milestone roughly a few weeks ahead of the Galaxy S III."

But CNET's Aloysius Low cautioned, "While you may think that this is impressive, bear in mind that the Apple iPhone 5 took only a weekend to hit the 5 million mark."

Rumors suggest Samsung may soon launch a new, more rugged version of the S4. The Verge's Matt Brian wrote, "A ruggedized variant of Samsung's Galaxy S4 might not be too far away from launching after new leaked images have captured the device in operation.... Samsung partner Peel, which makes the company's WatchON TV control application, also confirmed the existence of the waterproof and dust-proof handset."
