The systems vendor said it has added the TekCare best practices and service models from StorageTek to its own SunSpectrum service offering, dubbing the combined offering Sun StorageTek Service Plans.
The Sun StorageTek Service Plans combine the best of both the TekCare and SunSpectrum programs, including StorageTek's 2,000 services representatives, integrated hardware and telephone support and on-site maintenance service.
The services will support multi-vendor environments in DAS, NAS or SAN storage systems, remote diagnostic and resolution services, firmware updates and continuous access to Sun's customer resource centers, said Kitty Kelly, product marketing director of storage services at Sun.
Sun StorageTek Service Plans are a component of the SunSpectrum Support portfolio, which also includes services for Sun systems and software.
The news comes nearly a year after Sun began integrating StorageTek assets following the close of the $4.1 billion acquisition.
The deal, viewed with mixed reactions, significantly fortified Sun's ability to offer modular storage systems and added a fair bit of intellectual property to a company whose competitors include EMC, HP and IBM in the storage market.
Thus far, the integration seems to be a smooth transition.
