Headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, SAP is one of the largest enterprise software companies in the world. It was founded in 1972 by five former IBM employees whose project was cancelled. Today, the company has more than 335,000 customers in more than 180 countries, and it employs more than 88,000 people. In 2017, it reported revenue of €23.46 billion and net income of €4.02 billion.
SAP is best known for its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. In recent years, it has also been focusing on data management with its HANA platform featuring in-memory technology. SAP was in the Leaders quadrant of the most recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools.
