The Register: A group of technology vendors led by Oracle and Red Hat have drafted a new set of cloud computing standards that they call Cloud Application Management for Platforms (CAMP). The draft is aimed at encouraging interoperability among platform as a service (PaaS) offerings and specifies generic APIs for building, running, administering, monitoring and patching applications that run in the cloud. “CAMP defines a simple API that enables customers to have an interoperable solution across multiple vendors’ offerings, manage application lifecycles easily, and move applications between clouds,” explained Oracle’s Don Deutsch.

In addition to Red Hat and Oracle, the CAMP group also includes CloudBees, Cloudsoft, Huawei, Rackspace and Software AG. They plan to release a more detailed set of specifications within 18 months.
