CIO: SWC Technology Partners has published the results of a new survey which suggests all the talk about cloud computing may just be hype--at least for midmarket companies. Only 3.7 percent of the mid-size businesses surveyed said they had adopted a company-wide cloud computing solution. And more than half (54.2 percent) said they weren't planning any cloud-related projects.
In addition, the survey found that telecommuting was the norm at only 14 percent of the organizations surveyed, a 1 percent decrease from 2009.
One of the ways around the issues of security and control that make some businesses wary of cloud computing is to build a private cloud -- one that remains within the corporate firewall and is wholly controlled internally. Private clouds also increase the agility of IT an organization's IT infrastructure and make it easier to roll out new technology projects.
