Reuters: It now looks extremely likely that the Oracle and HP disagreement over the Itanium platform will go to trial. After a hearing Wednesday, Oracle attorney Dan Wall said a settlement between the two “isn’t going to happen.”

HP wants Oracle to pay $4 billion in damages caused by Oracle’s decision to stop supporting Intel’s Itanium processors, which HP uses in many of its servers. HP says Oracle previously agreed to continue supporting Itanium in a settlement reached when former HP CEO Mark Hurd went to work for Oracle.

Oracle says HP “cannot support” its damages claim and countersued for false advertising.
