Bloomberg: In an attempt to end an ongoing antitrust investigation, Google has sent a proposal to EU regulators. Google did not release the details of the proposal, but said that it addresses the “four areas the European Commission described” as potential concerns. According to Opus Research analyst Greg Sterling, “Three of the four areas are relatively easy to address. The ‘concern’ about placement of ‘Google content’ in search results is more problematic given that it goes to the heart of Google’s ability to control its search experience and algorithm.”
Google controls approximately 95 percent of European search traffic. In 2010, the EU began investigating claims that the company used its search results to discriminate against its competitors.
