The Wall Street Journal: A U.S. jury has awarded Apple an enormous victory in its patent battle with Samsung. The jury ruled that Samsung's products infringed on six Apple patents, and it awarded $1.05 billion in damages to Apple. They also said that Apple did not violate any of the Samsung patents at issue in the lawsuit. In addition, because the jury found that Samsung copied the iPhone and iPad designs willfully, the judge in the case could triple the damages award if she chooses.
In response to the verdict, Apple has issued a request for a sales ban of Samsung products covered by ruling. "The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung's copying went far deeper than even we knew," the company asserted.
Samsung issued a statement saying, "Today's verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices."
