Although adoption of wireless technologies is still in its early stages, a number of certifications and training resources have sprouted up. These include free Web tutorials, paid distance learning options, and instructor-led classroom training. Here is an overview of some of the early players in what is already becoming an active training area:

Nokia Corp. offers an extensive catalog of instructor-led courses, including WAP Server Workshop and WAP Developers Workshop. Zsigo Wireless Training, an independent provider which claims to serve over 10,000 students annually, currently offers training programs for RF, network, and software engineers in all areas of wireless technology. Zsigo's offerings include both instructor-led courses and self-guided interactive CD-ROMs.

If you want to find your wireless knowledge online, Ericsson Education Online provides a wide range of courses on telecommunications and data communications. Topics include WAP, Bluetooth, GPRS, and WCDMA. Another option is a new company called Ossidian Technologies Limited, which offers affordable Web-based training in various wireless technologies.

If your budget is limited, consider using some of the free tutorials and educational materials that are available on the Web. The International Engineering Consortium has an extensive list of tutorials on its site, including a number of wireless options. The Wireless Developer Network also has a list of self-guided resources.

If you're seeking a training option for numerous staff members in your organization, IBM Corp. offers customized training at the corporate level. Another option for both on- and offsite training is CDMA-Wireless Academy, Inc..
