HPE, Microsoft Azure Offer Cohesity Secondary Storage

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) customers now have new purchasing option for their secondary storage workloads powered by Cohesity’s platform. Meanwhile, businesses wishing to scale those workloads to the cloud have a new option courtesy of Microsoft’s cloud.

The enterprise secondary data storage startup today announced it had inked a deal with HPE to offer its storage management software bundled into a single hyperconverged offering. It includes HPE Proliant servers and network switches and Cohesity’s software, enabling businesses to consolidate their non-business critical storage workloads.

Regarding the HPE partnership, Patrick Rogers, vice president of Product Management at Cohesity, said his company’s technology “brings the benefits of secondary storage consolidation and simplification to HPE enterprise accounts. Today, enterprise data centers are forced to use purpose-built products for backup, file services, test/dev [and] analytics workloads.”

The new Cohesity-HPE partnership enables customers to “collapse these share-nothing silos into a one unified, scale-out data platform,” Rogers told Enterprise Storage Forum. “This eliminates redundant data copies, leverages your infrastructure to support multiple workloads, and provides rapid global search to find the information you need immediately.”

Consolidating secondary storage can add up to major savings, added Rogers. This type of data consumes an estimated 80 percent of data center capacity, according to company estimates.

On the hybrid cloud front, the Cohesity also announced the general availability of its DataPlatform Cloud Edition (CE) in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Running as a virtual appliance on Microsoft Azure, the product enables businesses to shift data from Cohesity clusters to Microsoft’s cloud and incorporate Azure into their disaster recovery setups.

The offering offers three major benefits, according to Rogers said.

“First, it enables customers to run Cohesity software-defined storage either on-premises or in the cloud. Second, it provides seamless integration of on-premise and cloud infrastructures by replicating, tiering or archiving data between these two locations,” Rogers said.

Finally, the solution helps ensure that any secondary storage is readily available when it is needed the most, added Rogers.

Cohesity DataPlatform CE “allows customer to manage their data across multiple locations via our global metadata index, enabling rapid access no matter where the data resides,” he said. “Cohesity software running in Azure, can now be ordered through Azure Marketplace, making it extremely easy to deploy Cohesity scale-out software in the cloud.”
