ComputerWeekly: Market research firm Gartner has released a new report which predicts that software as a service (SaaS) sales will reach $12.1 billion this year, a 21 percent increase over last year. Sales of customer relationship management software will drive much of that increase, accounting for 32 percent of all SaaS sales. By 2015, the SaaS market could hit $21.3 billion.
The report says that enterprise customers are becoming more comfortable with cloud computing. "Initial concerns about security, response time and service availability have diminished for many organisations as SaaS business and computing models have matured and adoption has become more widespread," said Gartner's Tom Eid.
One of the ways around the issues of security and control that make some businesses wary of cloud computing is to build a private cloud -- one that remains within the corporate firewall and is wholly controlled internally. Private clouds also increase the agility of IT an organization's IT infrastructure and make it easier to roll out new technology projects.
