InformationWeek: On Wednesday, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt appeared before a Senate panel to defend his company against antitrust charges. Without mentioning Microsoft by name, Schmidt compared Google to Microsoft. “That company lost sight of what mattered and Washington stepped in,” Schmidt said. However, he added that Google isn’t going to make the same mistake. “We get it,” he said.

On charges that Google doctors search results to promote its own products, Schmidt asserted, “I can assure you that we’ve not cooked anything.”

Representing the opposing point of view, Thomas O. Barnett, a lawyer for TripAdvisor, said, “I consider Google to be a dominant company with monopoly power at least in search and advertising.”
