SFGate: The hacktivist group Anonymous has breached a website belonging to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and has published data for more than 2,000 customers, including usernames, passwords, and many addresses and phone numbers. The attack came in retaliation to BART's decisions to shut down cell phone service in order to help prevent a planned police protest.
In an online post, the attackers wrote, "We are Anonymous, we are your citizens, we are the people, we do not tolerate oppression from any government agency." They added that BART "stored their members' information with virtually no security. Any 8-year-old with an Internet connection could have done what we did to find it. On top of that, none of the info, including the passwords, was encrypted."
BART officials have warned that a protest related to the attacks may interrupt the commute on Monday.
