15% of Facebook Videos Are Likejacking Attacks

Security vendor Symantec reports that scams are proliferating on the dominant social networking site.

ZDNet: Security vendor Symantec has released a new report analyzing Facebook "likejacking" attacks--malicious attempts to post "likes" to a user's wall, without his or her knowledge. After analyzing 3.5 million posts involving video content, the company concluded that 15 percent of posts with videos were likejacking attempts.

Typically, clicking on these fake video links does little more than post the video to the user's wall, proliferating the scam. However, in some cases, clicking the links will also download malware onto the user's machine and/or steal account information.
