Ubuntu Linux Heads to Smartphones, Tablets and Smart TVs

CEO Mark Shuttleworth will announce Canonical's plans to make Ubuntu more mobile at the Ubuntu Developer Summit.

ZDNet: At this week's Ubuntu Developer Summit, Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth will announce his company's plans to bring Ubuntu to mobile devices. “This is a natural expansion of our idea as Ubuntu as Linux for human beings. As people have moved from desktop to new form factors for computing, it’s important for us to reach out to out community on these platforms. So, we’ll embrace the challenge of how to use Ubuntu on smartphones, tablets and smart-screens,” he said.

Shuttleworth has not yet revealed a timeline for when Ubuntu-powered smartphones and tablets could become available, but he says they have been actively working with manufacturers on bringing the open source operating system to mobile devices for 18 months.
