The Register: Canonical has announced the beta release of Ubuntu 12.04, codenamed Precise Pangolin. While previous releases of the popular Linux distribution have featured the new Unity interface, Precise Pangolin will be the first update for paid long-term support (LTS) customers that will offer Unity. 12.04 offers very few big changes from previous versions of Ubuntu, but it does include a number of tweaks to make Unity a little more stable and polished.

Along with the beta, Canonical is also introducing a new Ubuntu Business Desktop Remix. Aimed at enterprise users, the remix dispenses with some of the games and entertainment software in the usual version on Ubuntu and adds VMWare View, OpenJDK 6 and other business applications.
