U.S. Needs To Be On-Guard for a Big Cyber-Attack

Army general says an attack "is coming."

NetworkWorld: At the "Maneuvering in Cyberspace" symposium, Army General Keith Alexander, commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency, told attendees that a major cyber-attack "is coming, in my opinion. It is a question of time. What we don't know is how far out it is." He also said that cybercrime costs the global economy $1 trillion annually, and that 55,000 pieces of malware are unleashed every day.

Earlier this week, the the Intelligence and National Security Alliance's (INSA) Cyber Council issued a report which called on the U.S. to increase its cybersecurity intelligence activities. It said that the Department of Homeland Security has the authority to conduct such a program, but not the experience and capabilities.
