Two iPhones Landing In September: Analyst

A Deutsche-Bank analyst revives rumors of a mid-range iPhone.

InformationWeek: Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore has sent a note to investors that's stoking rumors that Apple will release two versions of the iPhone this fall. According to Whitmore, the high-end iPhone will be called the iPhone 5, and the second, mid-range iPhone will be called the iPhone 4S. "With Nokia and RIM struggling," wrote Whitmore, "the time is right for Apple to aggressively penetrate the mid-range smartphone market (i.e. $300-500 category) to dramatically expand its [total addressable market] and market share."

According to Whitmore, the iPhone 4S will cost around $349 when it debuts in September.
