Twitter Suffers Another Outage

This was the service's third outage this month.

On Thursday morning, Twitter suffered a widespread outage, but it was back online within a couple of hours. It was the third such service disruption so far this year.

The Huffington Post's Drew Guarini reported, "As of around 10 a.m. EST, the social media site was experiencing downtime and server issues. The site and updates have been inaccessible from browsers Google Chrome and Firefox as well as iOS apps such as Tweetbot for iPad or iPhone."

The Atlantic's Rebecca Greenfield noted that as of 1:23 pm ET, "Twitter's officially all better now, says Twitter in an update to its status page: 'We experienced intermittent issues affecting web and mobile users, globally, between approximately 7:00am and 9:50am PST. This incident has now been resolved. We apologize to users who were affected by this, and we’re working to ensure that similar issues do not occur.'"

Computerworld's Sharon Gaudin observed, "Users, either frustrated with Twitter's downtime or poking fun at the crash, quickly took to the site once it was back up. 'When Twitter goes down, does anyone else think "Ha! I'll just tweet something funny about how annoying this is", and then realise and cry?' tweeted @TomChivers."

The Register's Kelly Fiveash also poked fun at the downtime, proclaiming in a headline, "WORLD temporarily FREED from BURDEN of TWITTER!"
