FOX News: If you lose your phone, what will likely happen to it? To find out, security vendor Symantec placed 50 “lost” smartphones in highly trafficked areas in major U.S. cities. The good news: almost all of the lost mobile phones were found, and half of the people who found the phones tried to contact the owners. The bad news: 89 percent of the time, the people who found the phones tried to access personal data on the devices. Here are the details:

  • 72 percent of the time, smartphone finders tried to access personal photos.
  • 43 percent of the time, smartphone finders tried to access banking apps.
  • 57 percent of the time, smartphone finders tried to access a “saved passwords” file.
