Symantec pcAnywhere Code Leaked After $50,000 Payoff Deal Collapses

Anonymous posted an e-mail string full of negotiations between hackers and the security vendor.

eWeek: Indian hacker Yamatough has publicly posted the code for Symantec's pcAnywhere product following a series of negotiations in which the security vendor offered to pay $50,000 to keep the hacker quiet. Symantec says the negotiations were part of its investigation into the matter. According to Symantec's Cris Paden, "The email string posted by Anonymous was actually between them and a fake email address set up by law enforcement." He added, "Money never exchanged hands and was never going to."

The hacktivist group Anonymous has posted the series of emails containing the negotiations online.
