Security Researchers Discover 'Indestructible' Botnet

Expert says that 4.5 million PCs are infected with the TDL-4 virus.

BBC News: Security researchers say that 4.5 million PCs have been infected with the TDL-4 virus in the last three months to become part of a large botnet. And because the virus installs itself in Windows master boot records--an area not usually scanned by security software--the virus usually escapes detection. According to the researchers, "The owners of TDL are essentially trying to create an 'indestructible' botnet that is protected against attacks, competitors, and anti-virus companies."

The researchers report that 28 percent of the infected PCs are in the U.S., with 7 percent in India, 5 percent in the UK and 3 percent in France, Germany and Canada.
