The Industry Standard: Research in Motion has announced that co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have left the ailing company. Former COO Thorsten Heins will step in as president and CEO, and director Barbara Stymiest will fill the vacant chairman job.

"It is Mike [Lazaridis's and Balsillie's] continued unwillingness to sacrifice long-term value for short-term gain which has made RIM the great company that it is today. I share that philosophy and am very excited about the company's future," he said.
