PC Unit Sales Could See 10 Percent Drop in Q3: Analyst

Peter Misek doesn't believe Windows 8 will improve PC sales in the fourth quarter either.

ZDNet: Jeffries analyst Peter Misek has put out a new research note which predicts that third quarter PC sales could be 5 to 10 percent lower than last year. PC shipments were also down in the second quarter, and another bad quarter could be especially difficult for HP and Dell.

Conventional wisdom holds that PC sales will go back up in the fourth quarter when Microsoft releases Windows 8, but Misek doesn't think so. Instead, he believes Windows 8 could encourage more people to buy tablets instead of PCs. "Windows 8 is unlikely to drive much of a positive consumer PC upgrade cycle in the fourth-quarter," he concludes.
