As it had warned, the company took a $6.2 billion charge related to its purchase of online ad service aQuantive. As a result, the company reported a loss of $492 million, or 6 cents a share. Revenue for the period climbed 4 percent to reach $18.06 billion.
Without the aQuantive charge and some similar charges, Microsoft would have earned 73 cents per share, which beat analyst estimates of 62 cents per share.
