PCMag: Yesterday, Microsoft previewed its upcoming Windows Store, which will debut alongside a public beta of Windows 8 in late February. The app store will offer apps for both desktops and mobile devices, and it promises developers "a bigger bite of the Apple," i.e.,  a larger share of revenue than they receive from other app stores.

"There is a lot to like in the new app store," said IDC analyst Al Hilwa. "I like that Microsoft is launching the app store early and that enterprises will be able to side load apps as needed and that Microsoft is promising hopefully early support for this process in its management tools. For developers I like some of the second-generation features baked in and ready to roll, such as in-app payment system, the advertising network, and the developer analytics features."

Initially, the Windows Store will feature free apps only, and only developers who have been invited will be able to submit apps.
