The Register: As Nokia's share price continues to plunge, rumors are swirling that Microsoft will buy out the struggling mobile phone maker. Is there any truth to the rumors?

Anonymous sources tell The Register that Nokia actually gave Microsoft access to its books late in 2011 in preparation for a possible buyout. However, at that point, Microsoft decided it didn't want to buy Nokia, and Nokia decided it didn't want to sell. Observers say it makes sense for Microsoft to purchase Nokia at some point, but it would be better for Microsoft to wait until the Nokia price drops even further.
