PCWorld: Lexmark has announced that it is getting out of the inkjet printer business. The major restructuring effort will result in 1,700 layoffs, including the elimination of 1,100 manufacturing jobs. The company will continue to offer support and services for its existing installed base.

Lexmark plans to focus instead on consumer and enterprise products that offer higher margins, such as multifunction printers, managed print services, content management and other software products. The company may sell its inkjet technology.
