Lenovo Passes Dell in PC Shipments: IHS

The Chinese PC maker's shipments rose 14.5 percent in the third quarter.

eWeek: According to new research from IHS, China's Lenovo is now the second largest PC manufacturer in the world, surpassing Dell. In the third quarter, Lenovo shipped 12.5 million systems, a 14.5 percent percent increase. HP remained in first place, with 16.2 million PCs shipped. Dell slipped to third, with 11.2 million shipments. In fourth place, Acer shipped 9.4 million PCs, and fifth-place Asus shipped 5.9 million units.

“Lenovo continues to capitalize on strong demand for PCs in its home market of China,” wrote Matthew Wilkens, principal analyst for for IHS. “While PC sales in the United States, Europe and many other regions are suffering because of weak economic conditions and rising competition from media tablets, desktop and notebook sales remain red hot in China.”
