eWeek: A new survey by GFI Software finds that nearly 70 percent of IT administrators consider their jobs stressful. In fact, 67 percent of those polled said they had considered switching careers because of the stress. More than a third of those surveyed reported working at least eight hours of overtime a week, and 85 percent said their jobs had negatively affected their personal lives.

Top causes of stress for IT admins included management (28 percent), tight deadlines (20 percent) and users (18 percent). Those who worked at companies with between 50 and 99 employees reported higher stress levels than those at smaller or larger companies, and the Northeast was the highest stress region.

April is National Stress Awareness Month.
