DigiTimes: Intel has notified laptop makers that, while it still plans to begin shipping its Ivy Bridge laptop processors in April, large scale shipments of the new processors will not begin until June. Both Intel and PC manufacturers continue to have large inventories of the older model Sandy Bridge processors, and Intel will not ramp up manufacturing of the new chips until that inventory comes down.

As a result of the news, notebook vendors are reworking their timelines for the release of new systems, including new ultrabooks. However, many of them say they don’t expect sales to pick up until after Microsoft releases Windows 8 in the fall; they fear much of 2012 will be a “dark period” for their industry.
