IBM Brings Windows to the Mainframe

New technology to support Microsoft's operating system on mainframe hardware will become available December 16.

eWeek: IBM has announced that technology to support Microsoft Windows on its mainframe hardware via the zEnterprise System will become available December 16. That will allow enterprise users to consolidate applications and data on their mainframe systems, resulting in cost savings of  up to 70 percent, according to IBM.

IBM expects the new technology to bolster mainframe interest. "We did hear from quite a few clients who said they had Windows applications and they wanted to take advantage of this technology," said IBM's Greg Lotko. "We're expecting an uptick [in mainframe sales]."
