HTC Soars, RIM Stumbles in Latest US Smartphone Shipments

Ars Technica: According to a new report from Canalys, HTC is now the leading US vendor of smartphones. The company shipped 5.7 million smartphones in the third quarter, putting it ahead of Apple (4.6 million smartphones shipped) and Samsung (4.9 million smartphones shipped). Six months ago, Apple had the lead, followed by HTC in second and Samsung in third place.

The report held more bad news for RIM, whose US shipment volumes have declined by 58 percent from a year ago. “RIM’s market share has fallen below 10 percent for the first time, and the current outlook for it in the US is certainly bleak,” said Canalys Senior Analyst Tim Shepherd.
