BloombergBusinessWeek: Two years ago, Google's attempt to sell mobile phones directly to end users failed to catch on, but the company wants to try again. It has announced that it will sell "unlocked" Galaxy Nexus handsets for $399 each through Google Play. “We’ve come a long way since then; this is a different world now,” said Google's Jamie Rosenberg. “We wanted to offer in Google Play a great instantiation of the Google Play experience and the experience with Google services generally on a mobile device. Nexus has always represented that.”

Google's Nexus phones will run the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, and owners will be able to use them with AT&T or T-Mobile network services.
