Google Adds More IBM Patents

The company bought 187 more patents and 36 applications to help fight its ongoing patent wars.

BBC News: Google has purchased 187 more patents and 36 patent applications from IBM. Some of the key patents included in the deal cover "using semantic networks to develop a social network," "identifying common interests between users of a communication network," a method for using web-based applications across additional devices and a "computer phone." Last summer, Google purchased about 1,000 other patents from IBM.

Google is embroiled in a number of patent lawsuits, and observers say that these new patents will help the company fight those battles.
