ZDNet: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Julius Genachowski is calling on Internet service providers (ISPs) to do more to protect their customers from cybercrime. Specifically, Genachowski wants ISPs to notify users when their systems may have been compromised by malware, botnet attacks, IP hijacking or other kinds of attacks. “The cyberthreat is growing," he said. "If we fail to tackle these challenges, we will pay the price in the form of diminished safety, lost privacy, lost jobs and financial vulnerability — billions of dollars potentially lost to digital criminals."

The chairman also called on the industry to create secure routing standards and develop other new ways to improve security.
