PCWorld: On Friday, Facebook unveiled some proposed changes to its privacy policy. According to the company, the new wording doesn’t signal a change in policy, but rather a clarification of existing policies, which was required by regulators in the U.S. and the E.U.

However, critics say that the updated policy does include some significant changes, such as a default setting that allows users to search for people on Facebook using their e-mail address or phone number, even if those people do not share that information publicly. “They’re talking about expanded use of your data with lots of little changes that are important. And Facebook is the master of these little changes adding up to big things,” said Sarah Downey, who works for privacy software vendor Abine.

Facebook is currently asking for feedback related to the new policy.
