TechCrunch: The bidding war for Quest Software is over, and Dell has won. Quest originally accepted a takeover bid from Insight Venture Partners in March. An unnamed bidder--now revealed as Dell--offered a higher bid, and additional bidding rounds followed. On Monday, Dell announced that it would purchase the enterprise software firm for $28.00 per share or about $2.4 billion.

Quest reported software sales of $857 million in 2011. Dell said it was particularly interested in the Quest One Identity and Access Management product line, Quest’s Performance Monitoring solutions, Quest’s Windows Server Management solutions and Quest's database management capabilities.
