Chrome breaks 20 percent global browser market share

Internet Explorer and Firefox continue to decline.

GigaOm: According to StatCounter, Google's Chrome browser accounted for 20.7 percent of the global browser market in June. That's a marked increase from two years ago, when the browser had just a 2.8 percent market share. Since 2009, StatCounter reports that Internet Explorer use has declined from 59 to 44 percent, and Firefox fell from 30 to 28 percent.

Other research firms report somewhat lower statistics for Chrome. For example, Net Applications placed Chrome at 12.5 percent market share in May.
