BlackBerry Maker Cuts Estimates Again

Discounts to the price for the PlayBook tablet lead RIM to re-state its earnings expectations.

The New York Times: BlackBerry maker RIM today warned analysts that its third-quarter earnings would be less than the $5.3 billion to $5.6 billion that it previously forecast. RIM blamed the poor quarterly performance on weak smarthphone sales and price reductions on its PlayBook tablet. While the PlayBook was originally priced at $499, the company is now selling it for just $199, which experts say is well below the device's cost.

The company will officially announce its quarterly results on December 15.
