New York Times: Although Amazon has sold of lot of new Kindle Fire tablets, it’s also gotten a lot of criticism. Users complain that it has no external volume control, that it’s too easy to hit the “off” switch, that Web sites take too long to load, that it has no privacy controls and that you need really skinny fingers to use it. “I feel the Fire is going to be a failure,” said usability expert Jakob Nielsen. “I can’t recommend buying it.”

Amazon has responded by saying a software update for the device is in the works. “In less than two weeks, we’re rolling out an over-the-air update to Kindle Fire,” said company spokesperson Drew Herdener.
