Apple to Buy Fingerprint Sensor Maker AuthenTec for $356 Million

Reuters: Apple has announced that it will purchase AuthenTec Inc for $8 per share, a total of $356 million. AuthenTec supplies mobile phone manufacturers with security software, as well as chips for fingerprint recognition and near-field communications (NFC). Interestingly, one of the company’s biggest customers is Samsung, which also happens to be one of Apple’s biggest competitors.

AuthenTec has annual revenue around $70 million.
