Apple Suppliers Causing Environmental Problems, Chinese Group Says

The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs in Beijing says Apple's Chinese suppliers have been releasing toxic chemicals into the environment.

NY Times: The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, a Beijing environmental group, has published a 46-page report accusing Apple's Chinese suppliers of polluting the environment. After visits to various factories, the group determined that 27 of the companies were causing environmental damage, including failing “to properly dispose of hazardous waste.”

“Apple is committed to driving the highest standards of social responsibility throughout our supply chain,” an Apple spokesperson said in response to the report. “We require that our supplier provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and use environmentally responsible manufacturing processes wherever Apple products are made.”
