CRN: A half dozen of the largest mobile platform providers, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, HP and RIM, have agreed to follow California's new mobile privacy protection standards. Under the the new state law, any app that collects personal information must have a privacy policy. In addition, before a user downloads an app from an app store, they must see the privacy policy. Developers who do not comply with the law could face prosecution.

Currently, less than a third of mobile apps have a written privacy policy.
