ZDNet: For months, hackers associated with Anonymous have claimed to be in possession of the source code for Symantec Norton Antivirus 2006 source code. Now the group has proved its claim by posting the code for the security software on the Internet. Although Symantec had previously admitted only that Anonymous had a portion of the code, the 1.07GB download appears to include code for several versions of the product, including both the consumer and the corporate editions.

Experts believe that the hackers accessed the code from Indian intelligence servers.

Symantec has said that the code theft does not compromise its current products. According to the company, "The current version of Norton Utilities has been completely rebuilt and shares no common code with Norton Utilities 2006. The code that has been posted for the 2006 version poses no security threat to users of the current version of Norton Utilities."
