Android Captures 43.7% U.S. Smartphone Share

eWeek: According to comScore’s statistics from August, Google’s Android mobile operating system has captured 43.7 percent of the U.S. smartphone OS market, an increase from 41.8 percent in July. Apple’s iOS increased its share more modestly, rising to to 27.3 percent from 27 percent. RIM’s BlackBerry continued its decline, falling to 19.7 percent in August from 21.7 percent in July. Windows Phone was flat at 5.8 percent.

The top five smartphone manufacturers for the month were Samsung, LG, Motorola Mobility, Apple and RIM, in that order.
