The new server chips will have the most cores of any on the market today.

PCWorld: AMD's 16-core Opteron server chips are now available for purchase, and they offer more cores per chip than any other processor for x86 systems. The company says the Opteron 6200 processors are 25 to 30 percent faster than their predecessors. They will begin appearing in servers sold by HP, Dell, Cray and Acer within a few weeks.

Prices for AMD's new chips range from $523 for the 1.6GHz version to $1,019 for the 2.6GHz version.
