Amazon's Kindle Fire Could Challenge iPad 2: Survey

A survey finds that 44 percent of consumers would be interested in buying Amazon's tablet.

eWeek: A new survey conducted by shopping and reviews website Retrevo.com suggests that Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet could give Apple's iPad some strong competition. Among those surveyed, 44 percent said they were interested in the Kindle Fire. Another 44 percent said they didn't know enough about Amazon's tablet to say if they'd want one, and 12 percent said they would prefer the iPad 2.

“The Amazon Kindle is a strong brand and a popular e-reader,” said Retrevo's Andrew Eisner. “However, it looks like Amazon may have to spend some marketing dollars if it wants consumers to perceive Kindle as a tablet, too. In this study, which was conducted after Amazon announced the Fire, the majority of respondents (35 percent) thought the Kindle Fire was an e-reader.”
