48% of Job Seekers Have Used Facebook to Look for Work

18.4 million Americans say Facebook helped them get their jobs.

ZDNet: A new survey conducted for recruiter Jobvite finds that 48 percent of all U.S. job seekers, more than 22 million people, have used Facebook to help look for work. That's a 53 percent increase since last year. In addition, 18.4 million people who are currently employed in the U.S. say that Facebook helped them land their current jobs.

Other key findings in the survey include the following:

  • 86 percent of job seekers have a social media presence.
  • 84 percent of job seekers are on Facebook.
  • 39 percent of job seekers are on Twitter.
  • 35 percent of job seekers are on LinkedIn.
  • 16 percent of job seekers have received a referral from a Facebook friend.
