35% of U.S. Adults Use Smartphones

Android continues to be the most popular smartphone platform.

CIOInsight: A new study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project finds that 35 percent of all Americans now own a smartphone. Unsurprisingly, smartphone ownership is more common among younger people. In fact, the majority (58 percent) of people aged 25-34 owned a smartphone, while only 11 percent of those 65 or older did so.

Among smartphone owners, the breakdown by platform was as follows:

  • 35 percent Android
  • 24 percent iPhone
  • 24 percent BlackBerry
  • 4 percent Windows
  • 6 percent Palm
